Van Terry

Van Norman Terry (Nov. 20, 1932 – Nov. 10, 1952) was a soldier from Scott County killed in action during the Korean War.

Biography

Born Nov. 20, 1932, Van Norman Terry was the son of Edward Terry (1912-1968) and Rosa Perneeta Hendren (1901-1939). His siblings included Clyde Letcher Terry (1930-1993) and L.J. Terry.

His mother died in 1939 in Oneida. His father remarried to Geneva Terry (1920-1986) and they left Scott County for Cincinnati, before eventually moving to Danville, Ky.

Korean War

PFC Terry enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was killed in action in North Korea on Nov. 10, 1952.

Aftermath

PFC Terry’s body was returned to Scott County, and he was buried at Cross Cemetery in Winfield. He is listed on the VFW Post 5669 Memorial Wall in Oneida and the Scott County Veterans Memorial in Huntsville.
