A pickup truck valued at $50,000 which was seized by Oneida Police Department in a drug-related arrest is being transformed into a police cruiser, according to Police Chief Darryl Laxton.

Delivering his monthly report of his department’s activities to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen Thursday, Chief Laxton said the 2011 model vehicle was confiscated after “a lot of crack cocaine” was discovered in the vehicle.

He explained that a property seizure hearing by the Tennessee Department of Safety officially turned the pickup over to OPD, after which Laxton determined, “It’s worth more to use to use like a regular patrol vehicle than to auction it off.”
