HUNTSVILLE — In Jared Laverdiere’s office on the north end of the Scott High School gymnasium, a large picture hangs on the wall. It is captioned with a single word: Perseverance.

As Laverdiere prepares to enter his third season at the helm of the SHS basketball program, that single word might aptly describe both he and this year’s varsity players.

Coming off a 5-win season a year ago, the Highlanders will field a team that is bigger, deeper and more experienced than Scott’s teams the past two seasons, and that has Laverdiere speaking boldly about what he expects from his players and the program this season.

In a nutshell, the former Anderson County standout wants his team to compete at a high level. And he believes they can.
