Joyce Ann Slaven Hargett, 61, of Oneida, passed away October 25, 2013, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
Born in Scott County, January 26, 1952, she was preceded in death by her father, Herbert T. Slaven; son, Brock Shaun Hargett; step-father, Glen Phillips; sister, Wendy Lee Slaven; aunts: Virginia Carter, Thelma Vincent, Verta Harris, and Helen Ruth Phillips; and father- and mother-in-law, Archie and Opal Hargett.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church; received her under graduate and Masterís Degree in Education from Tennessee Tech University, and served for 28 years as an elementary teacher in the Oneida Special School District.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Thomas Hargett of Oneida; mother, Opal Slaven Phillips of Oneida; grandchildren: Alley, Ryland, and Abury Hargett, all of Huntingburg, Ind.; brothers: Lynn Phillips and wife, Pam, and Reid Phillips and wife, Velva, all of Helenwood; sister, Elaine DeSalvo and husband, Dan, of Oneida; brothers- and sister-in-law: Rick and Marlyn Hargett of Fort Wayne, Ind., Ron Hargett of Merrillville, Ind., and Polly and John Wiedemann of Greenwood, Ind.; aunts: Freela Lawson of Brookville, Fla., Betty Phillips of Oneida, Dorothy Slaven of Ga., and Norma Sellenrick of Grand Junction, Colo.; great- nephew and niece, Noah and Allie Webb; several other nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted October 29, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Knight and Dr. Doug White officiating. Music was provided by Bro. Philip Kazee. Graveside service was to have been conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday October 30, at Hazel Valley Cemetery.
Jones & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
