Rex Allen Newport, 59, of Helenwood, passed away September 27, 2013, at UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
Born in Scott County, February 19, 1954, he was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Minnie Griffith Newport; brothers, D. J. and Richard Newport; sisters: Della Joe Newport and Vickie Newport; sister-in-law, Peggy Newport; and mother-in-law, Bertha Helen Sexton.
He was a member of New River Baptist Church, and was a loving husband, father, papaw, and brother. He was well known for his coaching skills for softball and basketball. He was a Tennessee Vols fan, and loved his family and spending time as they traveled county to county to play sports.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Newport of Helenwood; sons: Andy Newport, and Jody Newport and wife, Ashley; daughters: Cindy Newport, Windy Summers and husband, Jimmy, Darsey King, and Jessica Sanders and husband, Kevin; grandchildren: Tayleigh, Wyatt, and Alyssa (Izzy) Newport, Lyndsey and Bentley Summers, and Jordan and Justin Sanders; brothers: Edison Newport, Donald Newport and wife, Betty, James Newport and wife, Ruby, and Bobby Newport; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted September 30, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville with Bro. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Music was provided by Paula Bond. Graveside service was conducted October 1, at the Charles E. Sexton Family Cemetery.
Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville had charge of arrangements.
