An Oneida man is credited with saving the life of a stranger who was on the verge of drowning in the lake at Oneida City Park last week.

Travis Phillips, of Oneida, is said to have likely saved the life of Oneida’s Chuck Duncan when he saw Duncan struggling in the waters of the lake near the boat launch pad.

According to Oneida chief of police Daryl Laxton, Duncan was launching his boat when it drifted away from his vehicle. As he waded into the water in an attempt to retrieve it, he apparently wound up over his head.
