James  Norris, 78, of Cookeville, formerly of Huntsville, passed away June 13, 2013, at his home.

Born in Scott County, September 10, 1934, he was preceded in death by his parents, James and Florence Newport Norris; first wife, Mary Lee Foster Norris; sisters: Hester, Nettie, Beatrice, and Christine; and brothers: Willard, Lester, Arthur, and Warren.

He is survived by his wife, Violet Garrett Newport Norris of Cookeville; children: Rick Norris and wife, Betty Jo, of Monticello, Ill., and Nick Norris and wife, Lorenia, of Joliette, Ill.; step-children: Jennifer Watts and husband, David, Michelle Norman and husband, Tommy, Patricia Dixon, and Jonathan Newport and wife, Candace, all of Cookeville; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister, Vivian Albright of Ga., brothers: Roy and Marlene Norris of Ill., and Gene and Margaret Norris of Cookeville; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted June 18, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Kenneth Norris and Bro. Jacky Norris officiating. Interment followed at Black Creek Crossroads Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.

West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
