CLINTON -- Scott coach Jared Laverdiere's first game as head coach against his alma mater did not end as the Highlanders hoped, as Anderson County earned a 59-45 win Saturday evening.
Ethan Hayes scored 16 points to lead all scorers as Anderson County overcame a first half deficit by dominating defensively in the second half.
The Highlanders led 30-25 at halftime but were limited to just 15 second half points by the Mavericks' stingy defense.
Anderson County, meanwhile, used a big fourth quarter to put the game away.
Logan Lowe had 14 points to lead the Highlanders, while Kevon Honeycutt finished with 11.
The Mavs led 39-38 after the third quarter, then outscored Scott 20-7 in the final period.
Honeycutt had a big first half for the Highlanders, scoring 10 points -- including eight in the second period -- as Scott powered its way to the 30-25 halftime advantage. Stephen Butts hit two 3-point shots to aid the Highlanders' efforts in the first half. The second half was a different story, however. While Lowe hit two 3-point shots and scored eight of his 14 in the third and fourth quarters, Scott's only other second half field goal was a third quarter shot by Caleb Crabtree.
Butts had nine rebounds to lead Scott in that category, while Lowe added five and Myers four.
The Mavs limited the Highlanders to 31 percent shooting and owned a 42-26 rebounding advantage.
