Donald Glen Acres, 74, of Oneida, passed away January 26, 2013, in Cookeville.
Born in Jamestown, February 17, 1938, he was preceded in death by his parents, Arzo and Hattie Thompson Acres; sisters: Paula Kay Acres, and Lola Faye Jeffers; brother, infant James Harold Acres; and niece, Tracy Campbell.
He was retired from the United States Navy, serving 20 years overseas and stateside. His last assignment was at Pantuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland, where he retired. He was also employed for several years at Stuart Petroleum Co., and Dyna Corp, before returning to Tennessee.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jean Newport Acres of Maryland; son, Keith Acres and wife, Christy, of Spokane, Wash.; daughters: Lisa Murphy and husband, John, of Cary, NC., and Michelle Ridgell and husband, Clyde, of St. Inigoes, MD; nine grandchildren, sisters: Rhonda Campbell, Blannie Lou Smith, Brenda Chambers, Dorla Chambers and husband, Butch, all of Oneida; brothers: Anthony Wayne Acres and wife, Dorothy, of Ky., Larry Allen Acres and wife, Brenda, Gary Michael Acres, and Jeffery Lynn Acres, all of Oneida; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted January 31, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home. Graveside service was conducted February 1, at Arzo Acres Family Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.
West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
