KNOXVILLE — Stephen Butts hit six 3-point shots and finished with a career-high 26 points, but CAK was able to withstand the effort to score a 66-49 win over the Highlanders to start the District 4-AA campaign off on the right foot.
Butts hit five of his 3-point shots and scored 19 points in the second half of Friday’s game. But the Warriors had managed to build a 9-point lead by halftime and expanded that advantage to double digits in the third quarter.
Oteriah Lee scored 15 to lead three CAK players in double figures, while no Scott player aside from Butts scored more than four.
CAK jumped to a 12-8 lead in the first quarter and led 27-18 at the intermission. The Warriors outscored Scott 16-12 in the third quarter to take a 43-30 lead to the final period.
The Warriors hit seven of 10 free throws down the stretch to ensure that they would not relinquish the lead.
Scott shot 45 percent from the field and out-rebounded CAK 21-18, but were not awarded a trip to the free throw line until the final period.
