Alton M. Terry, 96, of Oneida, passed away January 2, 2013, at home with his family by his side.
Born in Scott County, September 1, 1916, he was preceded in death by his parents, Burdow and Lillie Thomas Terry; grandson, Kenny A. Terry; great-grandchildren: Dereck Shane and Justin Cory Terry; sister, Mable West; brothers: Cephos, Hillary, Homer, Walter, and Everett Terry; and daughter-in-law, Margaret E. McIntosh Terry.
He was an avid farmer for more than 60 years; and was a loving husband, father, and papaw.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Davis Terry of Oneida; son, Kenneth E. Terry and wife, Marsha, of Oneida; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, special friends: High Point Baptist Church congregation, Jackie, Shannon, Melissa Howard, and Megan Ayers Blackstone; special niece, Shirley Day; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted January 4, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Dilmon Stanley and Bro. Jamie Byrd officiating. Graveside service was conducted January 5, at Smith-Forbis Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.
West-Murley Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
