Little change as St. Mary's takes over

One week after St. Mary’s Health Systems assumed control of Scott County Hospital — now known as St. Mary’s of Scott County — there were few changes evident at the facility.

St. Mary’s COO Jack Bryan said Friday that no changes have yet been made at the hospital, as St. Mary’s officials continued meetings with associates, physicians and board members as an introduction to St. Mary’s.

St. Mary’s officially assumed operation of the hospital at midnight on January 1. Bryan, as CEO of St. Mary’s recently-created Community Hospital Division, is overseeing the acquisition of the facility by St. Mary’s.

Scott County Commission approved a transfer of lease agreement from Attentus Healthcare to St. Mary’s in December.

Some changes are expected, but personnel turnover is expected to be small. St. Mary’s previously vowed to retain all current employees of the hospital, with the possible exception of CEO Mark Cain, who is employed by Attentus.

In addition to its flagship hospital — St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville — and several specialist facilities, St. Mary’s operates community hospitals in Campbell County, Jefferson County, Cocke County and Claiborne County.
