HUNTSVILLE — Some 371 Scott Countians cast ballots at early voting locations here and in Oneida Friday, making it the busiest first day of early voting in local history.
By the close of polls on Monday, a total of 753 ballots had been cast, with an additional 158 paper ballots—absentee by mail or nursing home residents—for a total of 911 votes cast.
If the first three days of early voting are any indication, Scott County could be headed for yet another early voting record. In 2006, when there were more contested races on the ballot than there are this election cycle, 340 cast ballots on the first day of early voting and a total of 875 votes were cast through the first three days, including paper ballots.
In the 2006 election, more than half the total votes were cast during the 14-day early voting period, totaling 4,534.
“Local voters have come to enjoy the benefits and convenience of voting early,” Administrator of Elections Gabe Lowe said. “Voters can vote at their convenience and not worry about rushing to the polls on election day.”
Early voting continues from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today (Thursday), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Early voting resumes Monday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, July 30, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31.
Election day is Aug. 5.
