James Chambers

James Bailey Chambers (1889-1963) was a Scott County resident who served as Scott County Judge in 1926.

Early Life

Born in 1889, Chambers was the son of Pleasant Chambers and Amanda Carson. He was the third great-grandson of Revolutionary War veterans William Chambers and Randolph Lawson.

Chambers married Ethel Loveland (1888-1982) and they had three children: Dorothy (born 1916), Andrew Byron (born 1918) and James Sherrill (born 1924).

Judge of Scott County

Chambers’ father, Pleasant Chambers, was elected Scott County Judge in 1918 and re-elected in 1922. The elder Chambers died on April 23, 1926, at the age of 59. Following his father’s death, Chambers was appointed by County Court to fill out the remainder of his term. He took office on May 17, 1926 and served until Aug. 31, 1926, when he was replaced by Mitt J. Robbins.
