Historic farms of the Big South Fork

Within the 125,000-acre Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area are four historic homes, as well as one non-historic home, that are still standing.

Historic Homes

Charit Creek Lodge: A farm on Station Camp Creek that dates back to the early 19th century and is used today as a backcountry hostel. Accessible only by foot, mountain bike, or horse.

John Litton Farm: A farm near Bandy Creek that dates back to about 1900, when John Litton built a home on the headwaters of the North Fork of Fall Branch. Accessible by foot, mountain bike or horse.

Lora Blevins Farm: A farm near Bandy Creek that dates back to 1929, when Baptist minister Lora Blevins built a home along West Bandy Road near Bandy Creek. Accessible by car.

Oscar Blevins Farm: A farm along the headwaters of Bandy Creek that dates back to 1879, when John “Jack” Blevins built a home along the road leading from Leatherwood Ford to White Pine.

Non-Historic Homes

J.D. Burke Cabin: A cabin on the Big South Fork River that dates back to 1972, when J.D. Burke and James Anderson built a backwoods getaway about two miles downstream from Station Camp.
