Ernest Gibson

Ernest Gibson (March 22, 1943 – Aug. 8, 1966) was a Pioneer man killed during the Vietnam War.

Biography

Born March 22, 1943, Ernest Gibson was the son of Ambers Gibson (1908-1985) and Hattie Harness (1916-1980).

His siblings included Evelyne Auty (1938-2015), James Thomas Gibson (1940-2008), Shelby Gibson (1945-1946), Paul Douglas Gibson (1947-2022), Alma Lucille Gibson (1949-1949) and Lodena Harness (1953-2018).

He married Etta Louise Day on May 8, 1964.

Vietnam War

SP4 Gibson enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 26, 1962 and was assigned to Co. C, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was a direct crew fireman and began his tour in Vietnam on Aug. 8, 1966. He was killed in action at Tay Ninh province in South Vietnam on Aug. 8, 1966.

Aftermath

SP4 Gibson was buried at Fairview Memorial Gardens. He is listed on the VFW Post 5669 Memorial Wall in Oneida, the Scott County Veterans Memorial in Huntsville, the East Tennessee Veterans Memorial in Knoxville, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
