Charles Marcum

Charles T. Marcum (1903-1979) was a Baptist preacher from Straight Fork who served as Scott County Judge from 1950 to 1958.

Early Life

Born Feb. 1, 1903, Marcum was the son of Calvin C. Marcum (1867-1929) and Tennessee Silcox Marcum (1869-1931). He was the youngest of four children, and lived all of his life in the Straight Fork area of eastern Scott County.

Marcum married Elsie Hutson on June 10, 1923, and they had four children: Calvin Charles, Lenora, Alma Ruth, and Donna.

Professional Life

Marcum was ordained as a Baptist minister. He was a Mason, belonging to Lodge #695 F&AM in Oneida.

Judge of Scott County

Marcum was elected Scott County Judge in 1950, replacing Roscoe Byrd. He was re-elected in 1954 and served a total of two terms. He left office in 1958 and was replaced by Deacon Sexton.

Death

Marcum died at Scott County Hospital in Oneida on April 16, 1979, at the age of 76. He was buried at the Tennessee Marcum Cemetery in the Straight Fork community.
