C.L. Strunk

Clarence Lee “C.L.” “Shiloh” Strunk (1913-1984) was an Oneida businessman who served as the town’s mayor in 1980 and 1981.

Early Life

Born Oct. 20, 1913 in Scott County, Strunk was the son of Filmore Strunk (1891-1966) and Nancy West (1895-1970).

Strunk married Marie Duncan (1915-1991) in 1934. They had two children: son Johnny and daughter Louise.

Professional Life

Strunk was the long-time owner and operator of North Star Drive-In in Oneida, which was located where Hardee’s is currently located. He was elected as an Oneida alderman in 1977, and re-elected in 1979.

Oneida Mayor

While Strunk was serving as the town’s vice mayor in 1980, the mayor, Rodney West, resigned his office. Strunk was appointed to fulfill the unexpired term, and served in that role until the next election in 1981, when he was replaced by Denzil Pennington.

It was during Strunk’s time in office that plans were finalized for the Paint Rock Road railroad overpass in the downtown area.

Death

Strunk died of a lingering illness at Scott County Hospital in Oneida on Sept. 9, 1984, at the age of 70. A funeral service was held at Scott County Funeral Home in Oneida with Rev. John Shepard Jr. and Rev. Bill Lowe officiating. Strunk was buried at Hazel Valley.
