This article is about a living person.
Angel Terry Sexton is the executive director of the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands in Oneida, a position she has held since December 2022. She also owns Angel’s Blessings Boutique in Robbins.
Early life
Sexton was born in Jamestown, Tenn. but grew up in Robbins and has lived in Scott County her entire life. She graduated from Scott High School in 1990 and married Shane Sexton, of Sexton’s Heating & Air, in 1993.
Following her high school graduation, Sexton became a licensed cosmologist and resident artist, and owned her own business for more than seven years. She later graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and an Associate’s degree in early childhood education.
Work at the Children’s Center
Sexton joined the staff of the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands in 2000. She worked in an array of child advocacy positions before being promoted to the center’s chief operations officer and grant writer in 2010.
In December 2022, following the resignation of the late Kellie Walker, Sexton was named the Children’s Center’s executive director in an interim role. That position was made permanent on April 17, 2023.
Quotable
Sexton upon being named executive director of the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands: “I am honored and look forward to serving as the new Executive Director for the Children’s Center in Scott and Fentress Counties. It is a privilege for me to work along side the hardest working team and I count it a blessing to be a part of helping to ensure that every child who comes through our doors receives the best of care to help give hope to support their healing.”
