Velva Jean Lawson Jones, 79, of Dunwoody, Georgia, passed away peacefully May 5, 2019, surrounded by her family.
Born in the New River community, Tennessee, September 18, 1939, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walton “Wally” Wallace Jones; parents, Clyde Lawson and Marie Williams Lawson O’Dell; grandparents: John L. and Esther Lawson and Frank and Kezziah Williams; and step-son, Russell Jones.
She attended Huntsville elementary and high school through junior year, graduated from Alcoa High School; and attended Carson-Newman College. She was a member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church; and worked for Delta Air Lines-Knoxville, before moving to Huntsville, Ala., where she worked for General Electric Aerospace Division supporting NASA, later transferring to Atlanta, Ga., with General Electric. She retired from GE in 2004.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Sean) Ohnstad; grandson, Zachary; brother, Steve Lawson; nieces, Tami Barrett and Tina Smith; special friend, Kent Jackson; great-nieces, and nephews: Rebekkah and Olivia Barrett, James III (Trey) Barrett, and Cade Smith; step-sons, Jeff (Jennifer) Jones and Philip (Kathe) Jones; step-grandchildren: Brooke Lee, Caroline Jones, Ryan Jones, Rachel Jones, Daniel Jones, and Murphy Jones; great-step-granddaughter, Abigail; uncle, Gene Williams of Brooks, Ga.; and many other relatives and friends.
