Christopher Cox

HUNTSVILLE — A jury needed less than one hour Wednesday to convict an Oneida man of more than 80 sex crimes against children.

Christopher N. Cox, 38, of Oneida, was found guilty on Wednesday of raping a child, 81 counts of aggravated sexual battery and continuous sexual abuse of a child.

The conviction concluded a two-day trial that began on Tuesday, April 2. After the two days of testimony, jurors needed just 50 minutes to return the guilty verdicts.

Reportedly, Cox had been offered a plea deal, as is standard, but refused it, choosing instead to take his chances with a jury.

Cox had originally been charged with 92 counts of raping a child, 12 counts of aggravated sexual battery and five counts of continual sexual abuse of a child. Those charges were levied by a grand jury in October, more than a year after Cox was originally indicted.
