Ray Massengale, 74, of Winfield, passed away October 21, 2017, at Beech Tree Manor in Jellico.
Born in the Smokey Junction community, October 3, 1945, he was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Jean Cross Massengale; sister, Joyce Hogue; and father- and mother-in-law, James and Lucille (Ross) Stanley.
He was a heavy equipment operator who traveled across the country for work; and his kindness and solid work ethic were admired by the people he met and worked with. He was a 32nd degree Mason; was a beloved man who worked hard to provide for this family and was always willing to help anyone. He was a Christian who loved the Lord, and was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth Stanley Massengale; son, Edward Ray (Delora) Massengale; daughter, Renee (Bill) Chitwood; grandchildren: Logan Massengale, Chantey Taylor, and Rachel Ann Chitwood; great-grandchild, Peyton; grandchildren by heart, Jessica and Cody Stephens; brothers: David (Sharon) Massengale, Jerry (Shirley) Massengale, Elbert (Gwena) Massengale, and Randy Massengale; sisters; Helen Donahoe and Robin (Bill) Bowling; and many other relatives and friends.
Masonic service and celebration of life service were conducted October 24, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Cody Stephens and Bro. Jerry Massengale officiating. Singing was provided by Cody Stephens and the Terry Family.
Graveside service was to have been conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 25, at Jonathan Chitwood Cemetery in Winfield.
