Edwina Rose Sexton Greenwood, 77, of Coffeen, Illinois, passed away October 2, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Born in Oneida, March 18, 1940, she was preceded in death by her parents, Manford and Wilda Baker Sexton; brothers, Roy D. (Dorothy) Sexton, Manford E. Sexton, Jr.; and Tom Sexton; sisters: Theora (William) York, Louise (Irel B.) Reed, Patricia Sexton, June Sexton, and Dorothy Sexton; and brother-in-law, William C. Terry, III.
She was a graduate of Huntsville High School, and received her Registered Nurse degree at Baroness-Erlanger Nursing School, Chattanooga. During her psychiatric rotation in Washington, D.C., at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, she met her future husband. She worked as a surgical nurse at Hillsboro Hospital; worked as a visiting nurse with Bond County Public Health; and was the director of nurses for a nursing home in Greenville prior to retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Hillsboro, a member of the Red Hat Society, was an avid quilter, and loved to crochet, often giving what she made away.
She is survived by her husband, Glen Louis Greenwood of Coffeen, Ill.; son, Rev. Dr. Glen (Laura) Greenwood, II, of Alton, Ill.; daughter, Theresa (David) Greenwood of Centralia, Ill.; granddaughters, Cathryn Greenwood of Alton, Ill., and Rachel Legg of Springfield, Ohio; brothers and sisters: Wanda (Aaron) Jones of Hampstead, NC; Naomi Sexton of Scottsburg, Ind.; Annette (Tom) Mouat of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Landon (Faye) Sexton of Pine Knot, Ky., Judy (Ronald) Hutchings of Sparta, and Fayrene Terry, Dr. Donald Gordon Sexton, and Charles B. Sexton, all of Oneida; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was conducted October 7, at First Baptist Church, Hillsboro, with Pastor Ian Caveny, Rev. Mike Skinner, and Rev. Landon Sexton officiating. Interment followed at Green Hill Cemetery, Van Burensburg, Ill.
