Ortha Byrd, 87, of Pioneer, passed away May 2, 2017, at her home.

Born March 6, 1930, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Emma Lay; husband, Charlie Byrd; infant son, Leroy Byrd; daughter, Jewel Williams; grandsons, Paul and Dustin Bowling; brothers: Kelly, Wilbert, Arnold, Jay, and infants, Hubert and Leon Lay; twin sister, Dorthy Byrd; and daughter-in-law, Ruby Jean Byrd.

She is survived by her sons: Estle Ray Byrd of Annadell, Arvil Wayne Byrd of Haleyville, Ala., and Junior (Faye) Byrd, Jimmy (Tammy) Byrd, and Odeva (Lillie) Byrd, all of Pioneer; daughters: Audra (Woren) Frost of Haleyville, Ala., and Brenda (Gene) Bowling of the Straight Fork community; son-in-law, Billy Joe Williams of Pioneer; sister, Nettie Lay of the Rock House community; 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was conducted May 4, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Dudley Harness and Bro. Mike Chambers officiating. Graveside service was conducted May 5, at Five Black Gums Cemetery.
