Pastor Oddos D. Morris, 84, of Yorktown, Indiana, passed away March 8, 2017, at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Oneida, October 6, 1932, he was preceded in death by his parents, Leamon and China Stanley Morris; grandson, Jeremy Coffey; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn Morris and Grace Barnes; and brothers, Gilbert and Dorman Morris.
He was a 1950 graduate of Oneida High School, and served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. In 1961, he received the call to the ministry, was ordained in 1961, and earned a Doctor of Divinity degree from Central Indiana Independent Baptist Bible College in 2011. He served as pastor of Pine Hill United Baptist Church-Oneida, Annadell Missionary Baptist Church-Wartburg, Liberty Missionary Baptist Church-Mich.; and for 32 years, was pastor of Poplar Run United Baptist Church of Farmland, Ind. During his 55-plus years as pastor, he also served as an evangelist and had a nursing home ministry, conducting services in several facilities. His life-long passion was preaching. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed singing gospel music, and taught shaped-note singing. He dearly loved his family, and enjoyed watching his childrens’ and grandchildrens’ sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Adalene C. Sumner Morris of Yorktown, Ind.; children: Pastor Randal (Tonya) Morris, Patricia (Ray) Coffey, and Nathan (Edi) Morris; grandchildren: Chris Morris, Avery Morris, Racheal Barnes, Stephen Morris, Lucas Morris, Andrea Hamilton, Jason Coffey, Amber Chandler, Ariel Thornburg, Rosanna Canfield, Micah Morris, Titus Morris, and Chloe Morris; great-grandchildren: Gabe, Gideon, Silas, Lily, Samuel, Seth, Simon, Jayden, Timothy, Caleb, Justin, Kaitlynn, Jaycee, J-Jim, Aiden, Sasha, Hattie and Liam Moses; sister, Rretta Chambers; and several nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted March 15, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Muncie, Ind., with Pastor Randal Morris and Pastor Jeremiah Ferguson officiating. Interment was conducted March 16, at Riverside Cemetery, Losantville, Ind.
