James Forrest Daniel, 89, of Oneida, formerly of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully, February 25, 2017, at his home.

Born in Americus, Georgia, October 18, 1927,  he was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Drane and Mollie Daniel; brothers Clarence “Dan” (Virginia) Daniel and Aubrey Daniel; sister, Jane (John) Davies; and sisters-in-law, Carole (David) Luther and Norma Welsh.

His family moved to Jacksonville, Fla., after his father’s death and he graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1945, then served in the United States Army in post World War II Germany. After he returned from military service his family had moved to Orlando, Fla. After working several years, he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the University of Florida. He owned and operated Lock Haven Pharmacy in Orlando for 35 years then worked with his brother-in-law at Orlando Pharmacy for several more years until he retired at age 82. He was a long-time member of the Florida Pharmacy Association.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, reading and Suduko. He enjoyed summer vacations with his family in the western North Carolina mountains and spending weekends at the Atlantic coast fishing and watching rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center. He and his wife camped frequently at Bandy Creek in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and purchased a vacation cabin in Oneida for longer stays. In 2013, they moved to Oneida full time to be close to family and friends. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church-Winter Park, Fla., and loved Hank Turner’s Sunday School class, the Young at Heart. In 2013, he joined First Baptist Church-Oneida and enjoyed the Crusader Sunday School class.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rhoda Welsh Daniel of Oneida; sons, James F. (Alice) Daniel, Jr., of Bradenton, Fla., and David Welsh (Marilu) Daniel of Warner Robins, Ga.; daughters, Mary Ann (Terry) Roark of Oneida, and Carol (Bryan) Paul of Mt. Juliet; grandchildren: Jeremy Paynter, Keith Paynter, Ashley Daniel, Andrew Daniel, Dana Daniel, Matthew Roark, Mark Roark, Rachel Spivey, Tyler Cornwell, Trenton Cornwell and Breanna Paul; great-grandchildren: Kailani, Anela, Lea, Easton, Waylon and Leighton; in-laws: Christine Daniel of Jacksonville, Fla., Ralph (Bud) Welsh of Knoxville, and Mary Ellen Seabolt of Oneida; and several nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon - until time of funeral service at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 4, at First Baptist Church-Oneida, 201 S. Main St., Oneida, Tenn., with Dr. Randy Pressnell and Bro. Larry Brooks officiating. Graveside service will follow at Carson Memorial Park.
