Wilda Sexton York, 90


Wilda Theora Sexton York, 90, of Huntsville, passed away January 3, 2017, at National Healthcare Center in Oak Ridge.

Born in Oneida, November 5, 1926, she was preceded in death by her parents, Manford Etchel and Wilda Baker Sexton; husband, William Edwin York; granddaughter, Susan Yarbrough Legg; brothers and sisters, Manford Etchel Sexton, Jr., Lillian Louise Reed, Roy Denver Sexton and Tommy Burton Sexton; and in-laws: Robert Clendon (Bob) Blakeley, Irel B. Reed, William Claude Terry, Jr., June Sexton and Patricia Sexton.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church-Huntsville, was a member of Disabled American Veterans, and was a devoted Christian, wife and mother. She was a 1945 graduate of Oneida High School, and in earlier years, was active in the First Baptist Church–Oneida. In high school she, along with her sisters, were in the singing group, Girls in Trio.

She is survived by her children: Ellen Ruth (Rev. Dr. Earl) Rash of Huntsville, Billie Jean Blakeley of Winfield, and Linda Lou (John) Yarbrough, Sarah Ann (Mark) Randolph, and William Andrew (Leah) York, all of Knoxville; grandchildren: Jessica Nichole Rash of Taylors, SC, Jean Marie Wilkins of Memphis, William Corey York Rash of Waianae, Hawaii, Ron Yarbrough of Hendersonville, NC, Rebecca Sheffield of Clemons, NC, Robert Ryan Blakeley of Maryville, Ashley Brooke Stephens of Oneida, Alyssa Danielle Randolph of Atlanta, Ga., and Jacqueline Michelle Randolph and Alexis Kaitlyn York, both of Knoxville; great-grandchildren: Wendy, Matthew, Christopher, Landon, (CJ), Harrison, Clendon, Addison and Davis; siblings: Wandaline Jones, Fayrene Terry, Donald Gordon Sexton, Carol Annette Mouat, Charles B. Sexton, Edwina Greenwood, Landon Carter Sexton, and Judy Elaine Hutchings; special friend; Debbie Claborn; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted January 7, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Martha Fairchild officiating. Interment followed at Mossop Cemetery.
