Two Oneida men were killed in a single-vehicle accident on Niggs Creek Road just south of town early Friday morning.
Jonathan C. Lewallen, 25, and Juan C. Garcia, 27, were fatally injured in the accident, which occurred shortly before 2 a.m.
According to a report released Sunday by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the men were traveling in Lewallen's 2004 Subaru Impreza, which was west-bound on Niggs Creek Road.
THP Trooper Rusty Carr wrote in the report that Lewallen's car failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree head-on.
The accident occurred near The Primitive Barn.
The preliminary report from the THP did not note a cause of the accident. However, it indicated that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. There were also slick spots on area roadways from snowfall that occurred the previous evening.
Following a preliminary investigation the morning of the crash, A team of THP investigators returned to the site of the accident Friday afternoon.
Lewallen was a former football player at Oneida High School, and was employed by Norfolk-Southern Railroad.
Garcia was originally from San Jose de la Paz in the Mexican state of Jalisco, and was a popular server at El Rey Azteca in Oneida.
Funeral services for Lewallen were held Sunday at West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida, while funeral mass for Garcia was held Tuesday at Christ The King in Madisonville, Ky.
Lewallen is survived by his parents, Tim and Marietta Lewallen, of Oneida, along with several siblings: TJ Lewallen, Rachael Lewallen, Scott Lewallen, DJ Lewallen, Michelle Lewallen and Crystal Lewallen.
Garcia is survived by his fiance, Chelsey Drummond, and stepdaughter, Avah Drummond, along with his parents, Juan and Maria Garcia.
