HELENWOOD — A large turnout at Citizens Gas Utility District’s Board of Commissioners election on Saturday resulted in Huntsville business owner Dean West being elected to the board.

West, the owner of the West Ready Mix concrete plant in Helenwood, bested a field that included a total of seven candidates, receiving 296 votes from the 1,043 votes cast.

Keith Marcum, owner of Marcum’s Furniture & Appliances, finished second, with 258 votes. Oneida health inspector Tony Younce finished third with 217 votes.

Big Orange Window Tint & Wireless owner Wes Buttram finished with 113 votets, while former Highland Telephone Cooperative board member Jerry Burchfield received 72 votes, incumbent David Terry received 71 votes and former 2nd District County Commissioner Leonard Bertram received 15 votes.
