Born in Scott County, December 7, 1944, he was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Virgil and Versie Ovie Burress Cross; brother, Robert; and sisters, Ona Lee Stephens and Nevona Butler;

He was a member of Buffalo Bridge Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ann Cross of the Sugar Grove community; children: Melissa (Eddie) Hawkins, Gene D. “Bud” Cross, Jr., Sean Allen (Christy) Cross, and Weigela Kay “Jill” (Leonard “Rowdy”) Harness; grandchildren: Adam Byrge, Brian Byrge, Lounicia Byrge, Felicia Hawkins, Crystal Hawkins, Deedra Massey, Dakota  Cross, Emily Cross, Ryan Harness, Jesse Sexton, Cole Sexton, and Kaylee Harness; great-grandchildren: Rylee, Adam, Gabriel, and Nolan; brothers and sisters: Winford Aulen (Betty) Cross, William Sherman Cross, Nannie Mae Ridenour, Weigela Adkins, Ruth Ann (Don) Adams, Virgil (Dawn) Cross, Jr., and Frances (Troy) Waterman; and many other relatives.

Funeral service was to have been conducted at 5 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, at Buffalo Bridge Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Burress, Bro. Eugene Lay, and Bro. Charles Lowe officiating. Music was to have been provided by Leshia and Marilyn Bryge, and Terri Waterman. Interment was to have followed at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
