HUNTSVILLE — A Scott County man accused of shooting to death his late wife’s nephew amid an alleged theft gone bad pleaded guilty to charges against him Monday morning.

Gerald Ray Nelson, of the Low Gap community, entered a guilty plea to reduced charges of voluntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

Nelson will not learn of the ultimate resolution of his case until he returns to court for a sentencing hearing on Sept. 2. However, he will be eligible for parole as soon as early 2015 — and could be a free man even sooner.
