JACKSBORO — A Campbell County mother and her boyfriend have been indicted in connection with the death of a three-year-old child.
District Attorney General Lori Phillips-Jones and Campbell County Sheriff Robbie Goins announced at a Tuesday evening press conference that a grand jury had returned indictments against Amber Leann Orton, 29, and her boyfriend, Joshua Adam Comer, 33, both of Lafollette.
The charges are related to the June 10 death of three-year-old Gabriella Orton on June 10.
Orton, who was charged with aggravated child neglect, has been arrested. Comer, who was charged with first degree murder, was being sought by authorities in Campbell County Tuesday evening.
Investigators had previously said that the three-year-old child was taken to the emergency room of LaFollette Medical Center on June 10 with injuries that indicated abuse. She died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
At Tuesday's press conference, Phillips-Jones said two weeks of investigation by Campbell County authorities led to the murder indictment.
Five other children have been removed from the couple's home and placed into the custody of the Department of Children's Services.
