HUNTSVILLE — The property tax rate here will remain unchanged in fiscal year 2014-2015.

The town's mayor of board and aldermen on Thursday passed the first reading of an ordinance adopting an operating budget and establishing a tax levy for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. City recorder Wendy Buttram explained that the proposed property tax rate of 50 cents per $100 of assessed value is unchanged from the current rate that was adopted for FY 2013-2014.

The first reading of the budget was adopted without fanfare. The only discussion centered around a resolution that was adopted — like the budget, by unanimous vote — to purchase a utility truck for use by the town's sewer department. That resolution will be absolved into the budget before the second reading of the ordinance, which is set for June 26.
