John Robert Carter, of Winfield, passed away May 23, 2014, at his home.

Born in Mt. Vernon, Tennessee, April 29, 1949, he was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Carter; three sisters, and six brothers.

He was of the Baptist faith; loved to be outdoors and looked forward to riding his four-wheeler on the mountain. He loved and appreciated his job at Winco and considered the employees there his second family. He spent a lot of time talking with the Lord and spoke openly of his love and trust in Jesus.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, Brenda Chitwood Carter of Winfield; daughter, Candence (Brian) Goodwin of Kingston; grandchildren: Brandy Raper and Aron Miller, both of Lenoir City; great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; step-daughter, Julie (Mike) Woloszyn; step-grandchildren: Tyler Kuhn of Athens, and Nichole and Kara Girage of Atlanta, Ga.;  sister, Brenda Seabolt of Athens; brother, Kevin Red Carter of Madisonville; sister-in-law, Pauline Dykes; best friend, Mike Shirley; and many other relatives.

His wish was cremation. Memorial service will be held at a later date.
