Gary Lyn Murley, 64, of Helenwood, passed away April 29, 2014, at his home.
Born August 28, 1949, in Oak Ridge, he was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Gene Murley and Ilene Alder Venezia; Virgil and Beulah Murley, who raised him like a son; step-father, Sam Venezia; sister, Beulinda Sue Murley; and special aunt, Dot Holloway.
He enjoyed writing music and singing songs he had written, loved Eddie Arnold music, and was a avid Tennessee Vols Fan. He was a 1967 graduate a of Oak Ridge High School, a graduate of Tennessee Temple and Indiana College of Mortuary Science were he became a Dual Licensed Funeral Director and Licensed Embalmer in Tennessee and Indiana. He was a member of the Robbins Masonic Lodge #670 F&AM, and attended the Covenant Life Church of God, where he was saved at a young age. He was the founder of Collins-Murley Mortuary, and in the 1970ís he purchased West Funeral Home in Oneida, where he was a long-time businessman. He felt that his career choice was from God, and he never forgot the families he served. He was the founder of the name West-Murley Funeral Home, and his greatest honor was providing a friendly Christian service to the people of Scott County, which was his motto until his retirement in funeral service. He was an insurance agent with Monumental Life Insurance until his final retirement.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Mary; children: Cammie Mitchell of Muncie, Ind., Gary Lyn (Shannon) Murley, II, of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Heather (Matthew) Tew of Gainesville, Ga.; grandchildren: Jocelyn Corinne Mitchell, Micah Timothy Tew, Jaxon Michl Murley, Alexis Murley, and Savannah Murley; brother, Larry Wilson of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Karen (Jay) McGinty of Oak Ridge; special nephew, Matthew Burrell of Andersonville; special friends, Don West and Edd Gilreath; and many other relatives.
Funeral service and Masonic service by Robbins Lodge 670 F&AM were conducted May 3, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home of Oneida. Graveside service was conducted May 5, at Tomlinson Cemetery in Muncie, Ind., with Pastor Rick Bowen officiating.
