Soccer: Oneida defeats Kingston for third straight win

KINGSTON — Oneida took a two-point lead late, then held on for a 5-4 win in a back-and-forth game here Friday, the Indians' third consecutive win overall.

Matt Phillips scored two goals for the Indians — his sixth and seventh goals in Oneida's three-game win streak that began eight days earlier against Oliver Springs — while Nathaniel Furrer also scored two goals. Cheston West added a goal as well.

The Indians fell behind 2-0 early, then battled back to tie the game at two and never trailed again. Oneida's third consecutive goal gave the Indians their first lead of the night at 3-2. Kingston managed to tie the game, but the stalemate was only temporary, as Oneida scored two more goals back-t0-back to grab a 5-3 lead.

For Phillips, Friday's two-goal outing followed a hat trick in Tuesday's 5-1 over Harriman. West scored two goals in that Tuesday win over the Blue Devils.

Furrer and Phillips each had two first half goals in a 6-0 win over Oliver Springs on April 3 to jump-start the Indians' winning streak.
