HUNTSVILLE — In a surprise move, County Commission’s Public Works Committee Monday evening responded by a vote of 6-1 to Huntsville Mayor George W. Potter’s request to transfer of ownership of the county’s sewer system to the Town of Huntsville.

Mayor Potter, who was present at Monday’s monthly work session, passed out a letter addressed to County Mayor Jeff Tibbals, formally requesting an agreement with the county “to accept the county’s sewer system,” but not “the liabilities associated with the wastewater treatment system prior to the Town’s acquisition.”

Such a merger of the two sewer systems, if approved by the full commission as well as the Huntsville Mayor and Board of Aldermen, would, in effect, result in Scott County government no longer being in the sewer business, stated Mayor Tibbals.
