HUNTSVILLE — Campbell County attorney David M. Pollard Jr. is the 8th Judicial District’s newest assistant district attorney, District Attorney General Lori Phillips-Jones announced Monday.

Perhaps most notable, however, is who Pollard replaces: Phillips-Jones’ opponent in the upcoming election, Jared Effler.

Effler, an assistant D.A. on Phillips-Jones’ staff, was fired Friday. In a news release Monday, Phillips-Jones said that Effler had requested paid leave in order to campaign for the upcoming Aug. 7 election.

“Jared had requested paid leave to campaign for the months of May, June and July of this year, which would have left the Claiborne and Union County offices critically understaffed for the summer,” Phillips-Jones said. “Our office has too many important things to do for someone to take that kind of voluntary leave.”
