Oliver Springs scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning at Bear Creek Monday afternoon, but it was not quite enough, as Oneida held on for a 6-4 win to start the two-day series.

The Indians, who will travel to Oliver Springs Tuesday, improved to 2-0 in District 4-A play with the win.

Oneida scored four runs in the first inning to take command early, and wound up finishing with six runs on nine hits. Cage West, Caleb Jeffers, Colby Jeffers and Tanner Sexton recorded RBIs for the Indians. Sexton also scored a run, while Matt Williams scored two runs. Also scoring for Oneida were Caleb Lee, Cole West and Bryant Harper.

Lee got the win for Oneida, striking out eight while allowing five hits through 6.2 innings. Williams got the save.
