HUNTSVILLE — A Crossville man is in custody locally after being accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a Huntsville motel.
Billy Ray Pugh, 48, of Crossville, was arrested Tuesday, March 4, by Scott County Sheriff's Department detective Randy Lewallen. Pugh's arrest came one week after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of rape.
According to an affidavit filed by Detective Lewallen, the local Sheriff's Department was alerted by Cumberland County on Feb. 17 that a Crossville teenage girl had been reported missing and could possibly be in Scott County. Lewallen located the girl the same day and she was returned to Cumberland County. There, she gave law enforcement investigators a statement saying that Pugh had forced her to have sexual intercourse while staying at the Grand Vista Hotel in Huntsville in early February.
Pugh's bail was set at $150,000. He was arraigned before General Sessions Judge Jamie Cotton Jr. on Wednesday, March 5, at which point the judge issued an order appointing legal counsel.
A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for Wednesday afternoon.
