KNOXVILLE — Scott's Lady Highlanders kept things close for the first half, then saw Fulton began to gradually pull away in the second half of Friday's Region 2-AA quarterfinal here, as the District 3 champion eventually earned a 55-33 win.

Scott led 8-4 after the first period, holding Fulton easily in check for the first eight minutes. The Falcons began to get on track in the second quarter, but the Lady Highlanders were still holding their own, and trailed by just three points — 20-17 — at halftime.

But Fulton began to separate itself in the third quarter, jumping out to a double-digit lead that it would not relinquish.

In her final game as a Lady Highlander, Victoria Lloyd scored 15 points to lead her team in scoring.

Tyanna Castle scored 17 to lead three Fulton players in double figures.

Neither team was particularly active from the 3-point line; each wound up with just one made 3-point shot. The Lady Highlanders, meanwhile, were limited by Fulton to just 23 percent shooting.

Scott shot 10 of 13, 77 percent, from the free throw line.

The Lady Highlanders were strong on the boards, snagging 34 rebounds. Jessica Edwards led the way with eight. Montana Phillips added seven.

The loss ended Scott's season. The Lady Highlanders had advanced to the region tournament with an upset win over Kingston in the first round of the District 4-A tournament last week.

Lloyd, Scott's only senior, finished her Lady Highlander career as a four-year starter and averaged 16 points per game this season. She scored a total of 463 points and knocked down 73 3-point shots over the course of the season. She also averaged 6.6 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game this season.

On Saturday, Scott's men's team will be in action in the regional quarterfinals when they visit District 3-AA champion Carter. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
