Donald Glen West, Sr., 76, of Oneida, passed away on February 2, 2014 at his home.

Born in Scott County, Tenn., on August 12, 1937 he was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ida Bell West; daughter, Angie Sexton; first wife and mother of his children, Wanda West; brother, Arnold West; step-grandson, Brandon Woodward; and brother-in-law, Henry Hembree.

Don was a master carpenter and built many houses, commercial buildings and churches, including White Rock Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Huntsville and, most recently, Black Oak Baptist Church. He was very dedicated to his work and would pray about his building of churches because they were Godís houses.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary Helen West; two sons, Donald and Elizabeth West and  Jeffery and Loretta West; one daughter, Donetta and Chris Mitchell;  step-sons: Rick and Teresa Woodward, Timmy and Peggy Woodward, Jeff and Brenda Woodward and Michael and Melisa Woodward; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; brother, Larry and Bonnie West; sister, Francine and Greg Wilson; sister-in-law, Kathleen West; son-in-law, Donald Sexton; two brothers-in-law, J.R. Hembree and Gerald Hembree; sister-in-law, Eloise Hembree; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Tuesday evening at the White Rock Baptist Church in Huntsville with Bro. Jim West and Bro. Ashley Ellis officiating.

At his request, Don's remains will be cremated.
