HUNTSVILLE — A Scott County man attempting to steal money from an elderly woman was allegedly caught red-handed Friday afternoon, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities say Chad Eric Buttram, 25, of Helenwood, was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Friday and charged with theft and burglary after attempting to take advantage of an elderly woman who was lending a helping hand.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, officers — including drug agent Kris Lewallen and deputy Eric Newport — were working drug interdiction in the Huntsville area when dispatchers received a report of a burglary in process.
