ALCOA — Only four Highlanders wound up in the scoring column here Tuesday, but it was nearly enough to allow Scott to pull off the first big upset in District 4-AA play.
In the end, however, the Tornadoes prevailed with a 56-51 win in overtime to remain the district's only undefeated team.
Scott led for most of the third quarter after grabbing a slim lead late in the second, then withstood an Alcoa surge late in the third and into the fourth to force a second overtime in as many outings.
But, ultimately, 15 points each by Alcoa's Peyton Wall and Nick Miller was enough to push the Tornadoes to the win.
Scott, which had held Claiborne scoreless in an overtime session five days earlier, saw Alcoa return the favor Tuesday. After a 51-51 deadlock at the end of regulation, the Tornadoes scored the only five points in overtime. Brandon Teeter, who had only four points in regulation, scored all five of them to lead his team to the win.
Scott's Logan Lowe had 16 points to lead all scorers, while Jeremiah Adkins added 13 — 11 of them in the second half.
For a second straight game, the Highlanders struggled from behind the 3-point line, hitting just three long-range shots on the night.
As a team, Scott shot 21 of 57 from the field — 37 percent. The Highlanders out-rebounded Alcoa 34-30. Lowe led in that department with nine boards, while Stephen Butts added eight and Jacob Myers finished with seven rebounds.
After Tuesday's disappointing finish, the Highlanders won't have to wait long for an opportunity at revenge. Alcoa is scheduled to visit Huntsville in one week.
