HARRIMAN — In the first quarter here Friday, Oneida missed some shots it would ordinarily make and host Harriman made some shots it would ordinarily miss.

The result was a 13-13 gridlock at the end of the first quarter. But from there, it was all Oneida, as the Lady Indians defeated the Blue Devils 61-35 in the second day of play at the Harriman Christmas Classic.

Micah Stephens scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Baylee Newport had 12 points and four assists, as the Lady Indians won their second game in as many days at Harriman High School.

After that 13-13 tie at the end of the first quarter, Oneida put together a 24-5 run that was capped by a Newport bucket midway through the third period, giving the Lady Indians a commanding, 37-18 lead.

Harriman was able to play Oneida evenly the remainder of the third quarter, but Oneida took charge again in the fourth, going ahead by 21 points on a shot by Tesla Huling and never allowing the Blue Devils closer than 20 points the rest of the way.

After the tough start from the field, Oneida's shooting percentage steadily improved throughout the game. On the night, Oneida shot 46 percent from the field, despite a 4-of-14 effort from 3-point range. The Lady Indians were 11-of-16 from the free throw line. Harriman, meanwhile, was limited to 26 percent shooting and forced into 27 turnovers by Oneida. The Lady Indians held a 32-29 rebounding advantage.
