Michael  David Cross, 56, of Pioneer, passed away December 8, 2013, at home with his family by his side.

He was of the Christian faith, and was an active member of White Rock Baptist Church. He was a career law enforcement officer, having 25 years of service and was passionate about making a difference in the community he faithfully served. He began his career at the Scott County Sheriffís Office in 1990 and went on to graduate from the Tennessee Law Enforecement Training Acedemy in 1992 and served until 1996. He then became chief of police for the Town of Oneida, where he served for almost 16 years. In August 2010, the citizens of Scott County elected him as their Sheriff, where he faithfully and proudly served.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Tammy Cross of Pioneer; children: Michael Tyler Cross, and Mallory Cross; sister-in-law, Missy Bowlin; mother, Dorothy Cross; sisters: Gail Watson, Cynthia Reynolds, and Donna Cross; brothers: Tim Cross and Gary Cross; special friends: Gordon and Traci Byrd, Jeff and Cynthia Yancey, and David Blue Day and wife; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at White Rock Baptist Church .  Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at White Rock Baptist Church, with Bro. Jim West and Bro. Carlie Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Memorial Gardens.
