Mennie Ruth Blevins Evans, 76, of the Black Oak community, passed away December 3, 2013, with her family by her side following a brave battle with cancer.
Born in Scott County, December 29, 1936, she was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Laura Blevins; husband, Lonzo James Evans; daughter, Linda Colleen Evans; mother- and father- in- law, John and Martha Evans; sister, Christine Babb; brother, Kirby Blevins; an infant brother and sister; brothers-in-law, Roscoe and Willard Evans; and sisters-in-law: Easter Evans and Eva Smith.
She was saved as a young girl and was of the Baptist faith. She was a dedicated wife and mother to her family and all who entered her door, especially her daughters in love, Deborah Phillips and Darlene Lee. She worked tirelessly for many years cleaning and repairing clothing for foster children and victims of AIDS.
She is survived by her son, Sammy J. Evans of Oneida; grandson, Jason Evans of Oneida; great-grandson, Glenn; brothers: Earnest Blevins of Jamestown, and Tommy Blevins and wife, Susie, of Oneida; sisters: Wanda Sue Blevins and husband, Joe, and Shirley Kay Burke and husband, Jessie, all of Oneida; brothers-in-law: John Roy and Argie Evans; and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted December 7, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Blevins officiating. Interment followed at Katy Blevins Cemetery.
Jones & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
