Wilma Imogene (Jeanie) Kirkland, 85, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away peacefully, November 26, 2013, at home.

Born in Oneida, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Amos Lee Thomas; sons: Robert Lee Thomas and Lt. Col. David Allen Thomas; and brother, John Quincy Smith.

She  was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother; and was known for her love of painting and a love for all animals. Gracious and kind, she helped anyone in need. She lived in Jefferson County, Alabama, for many years and was a member of Mountain Brook Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Theo N. Kirkland; daughter, Belinda Thomas; son, William Thomas; grandchildren: Megan Champion, Amy Rimer Martin, Justin Rimer, Brian Thomas, Michael Thomas, Joshua Thomas, and Amanda Thomas Lucherini; numerous great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

Funeral service was conducted December 1, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Smith officiating. Interment followed at H.C. Smith Cemetery.

Jones & Son Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
