Phelan Posey, 76, of the Ditney Trail community, passed away peacefully October 8, 2013, at his home.
Born in Scott County, July 13, 1937, he was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Dora Sexton Posey; mother- and father-in-law: Leroy and Emma Day Harness; brothers: Denver, Jerry, and Gary Posey; sister, Juanita Fowler; and sister- and brothers-in-law: Carolyn Posey, Dana and Billy Harness, J. M. Lay, Carroll Fowler, and Gene Massey.
He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of more than 58 years, Ardella Harness Posey of the Ditney Trail community; children: Delores Fletcher and husband, Patrick, Darren Posey and wife, Heather, and Gloria Hunley, all of the Ditney Trail community, Karen Posey, and Tammy Hutson and husband, Randy, all of Oneida, and Dale Posey and wife, Sandy, of Lake City; grandchildren: Kim McKamey, Shandell and John Kirby, Adam Hunley, Beth, Kenny, and Danny Gibson, Tyler Hutson, Brittany, Michael and Makenzie Posey, and Nicole and Adam Fletcher; 20 great-grandchildren, brothers: James Posey of Bethlehem, Ga., and Jeff Posey and wife, Jean, of Union Point, Ga.; sisters: Martha Lay of Elk Valley, Shirley Stevens and husband, Jim, of Ga., Ronnell Goss and husband, Barry, of SC, and Linette Brumbalow and husband, David, of the Ditney Trail community; special brothers- and sister-in-law: Marion Lee ìMonkî Harness, Oídell Harness, L.C.îSlickî Harness and wife, Margaret, Thurman Harness and wife, Loretta, RosaLou Massey, Marilyn Sue Harness, and Nancy Harness; special friend, Franklin West; special aunt, Sara Faye Slaven; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted October 11, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville with Bro. Carlie Duncan and Bro. Randall Hutson officiating. Music was provided by Antioch Singers, and Tim Duncan. Interment followed at Fairview Memorial Gardens.
Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville had charge of arrangements.
