Sgt. First Class Jamon (White) Mitchell Thompson, 96, of Powell, formerly of the Paint Rock community, passed away February 3, 2013, at Tennova Hospice Care in Knoxville.
Born in Oneida, December 21, 1916, he was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell and Florence Duncan Thompson; wife, Reba Sexton Thompson; sisters: Berdie Thompson, Gillie Sexton, Elizabeth Thompson, Ida Bell Phillips, and Rose Perkins; and brothers: Lewis, Charlie, twin, James (Red), Sylvester, and Josh Thompson.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Powell, was a retired United States Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War, was a Mason for many years, and also worked and retired from the City of Columbia, SC.
He is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until time of funeral service at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Barnes officiating. Graveside service will be conducted Thursday Feb. 7, at Sexton Memorial Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Tennessee Honor Guard.
